The story behind REA

RealEstateAccounting.co (REA) co-founders Adam Eatros and Mark Kappelman (CPA, CFA) have always shared a passion for real estate, technology, and clean financial data. Individually, they have founded and scaled venture-backed technology companies, worked in public accounting at PwC and Ernst & Young, and personally acquired millions of dollars worth of real estate as both GP's and LP's. Together, they look to leverage intelligent human interaction with automation technology to help solve the financial frustrations they know all too well that come with growing and managing a portfolio of properties.

At REA, we understand that most real estate companies do not have the need or resources for a full-time controller or accounting team. That's where we come in. REA was built from the ground-up with both the real estate investor and property manager in mind to take care of the financial administration associated with running a successful real estate business. You can think of us as your in-house accounting team, just at a fraction of the cost and response time versus most other DIY solutions.

What differentiates REA from other accounting & bookkeeping firms is that we specialize in real estate and property management. This means we only work with real estate companies, providing us with unique knowledge, experience, and skills that we leverage to help our clients manage and ultimately scale their businesses. With real estate being our expertise, you can sleep better knowing your financials are setup correctly and accurately completed on a monthly basis to maximize profits, improve financial insights, and keep you in accordance with Trust accounting laws.

Mark Kappelman (CPA, CFA), Co-Founder at REA

Co-Founder

Mark brings sixteen years of accounting, operations, and real estate experience to REA. Most recently, Mark held a senior operating & finance position with a venture-backed technology company in Chicago. Prior to that, Mark spent seven years in public accounting at PwC and Ernst & Young doing both M&A financial due diligence and auditing.

Over the past ten years, Mark has acquired greater than $15m of real estate across about 40 units providing him with hands on experience across all types of real estate transactions. Mark is also an active investor across numerous real estate deals as an LP.

Mark's undergraduate and graduate degrees are from Arizona State University. Additionally, Mark holds the Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Adam Eatros, Co-Founder at REA

Adam has 17 years of entrepreneurial experience leading business operations, finance, and strategy at scale. Prior to founding REA, Adam was the co-founder and COO at Yidio.com, an angel-backed search & discovery platform for watching TV shows & movies online. While in that position for over 11 years, Adam helped profitably scale Yidio to become one of the largest online TV guides with millions of users each month.

Adam is also an active real estate investor and currently involved as an LP or GP in assets valued at over $500m.

Adam received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

Sharifa Giraldo, CPA, VP, Client Success (Residential PM) at REA

Sharifa is the Vice President of Client Success for the Residential Property Management Division, bringing over 20 years of property accounting experience to the role. She specializes in development and third-party property management, with a keen expertise in Appfolio migrations.

Sharifa has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 2015 and holds a Master in Business Administration. Her extensive background and specialized knowledge enable her to efficiently manage complex property portfolios and deliver exceptional client service.

Will Daege, VP, Client Success (Commercial PM) at REA

Will Daege

VP, Client Success (Commercial PM)

Will Daege is the Vice President of Client Success for the Commercial Property Management Division. He is a seasoned real estate professional with over 25 years of management experience specializing in property accounting, FP&A, and project management across retail, commercial office, industrial, and multi-family asset classes.

He has held leadership positions with some of the nation's largest real estate owners and developers, including The Related Companies, where he managed key operational and financial initiatives for the $18mm+ square foot Hudson Yards development. His experience also includes serving as Portfolio Controller for their New York Development portfolio and as Controller and Finance Committee member of the Board for the iconic Time Warner Center.

Prior to Related, he directed lease compliance for over 99 million square feet and 600 properties at Centro Properties Group US. He managed over 10 million square feet of retail properties as Southwest Regional Accounting Manager for New Plan Excel Realty Trust.

Sarah Stanton, CPA, Director of Tax at REA

Director of Tax

Sarah brings over eight years of real estate tax compliance experience to REA, with a strong concentration in partnership taxation. As both a tax advisor and an active real estate investor, she offers a dual perspective that enables her to engage with clients not only as a technical expert but also as a strategic business partner.

Before joining REA, Sarah was a Tax Manager at CohnReznick, a top 10 nationally ranked public accounting firm. Prior to that, she spent six years in public accounting at PwC and Marcum. Sarah holds both a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a Master's degree in Taxation from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University in New York. She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 2017.
